Do I need an electrician to install Balvolt™ lights?

An electrician is not typically required because Balvolt™ systems are plug-in lighting kits and do not involve hard-wiring when installed as directed.

However, installation involves ladders, mounting hardware, and power equipment. For safety and best results, we recommend installation by a qualified handyman, contractor, or licensed professional. If you have electrical concerns, complex layouts, or local code requirements, consult a licensed electrician before installation.

We price fairly from day one rather than inflating prices for fake "sales." We occasionally offer discounts for newsletter subscribers and bundle purchases.

What's the lifespan?

Installation

Do I need an electrician to install Balvolt™?

Balvolt™ systems are plug-in lighting kits and do not involve hard-wiring when installed as directed—so an electrician is not typically required.

However, installation involves working with ladders, mounting hardware, and overhead surfaces. For safety and best results, we recommend installation by a qualified handyman, contractor, or licensed professional. If you have electrical concerns, complex layouts, or local code requirements, consult a licensed electrician before installation.

How long does installation typically take?

Installation time varies depending on layout size, mounting surface, and installer experience. Most installations are completed in approximately 1–4 hours.

Balvolt™ strongly recommends having at least two people present for lifting, alignment, and safety—especially when working on ladders or ceilings. Professional installation is recommended for all setups to help ensure proper mounting, alignment, and safe installation.

Always use proper tools and safety precautions, and do not attempt installation if you are unsure about any part of the process.

What tools are typically needed for installation?

Your installer will typically need:

  • Sturdy ladder appropriate for your ceiling height
  • Pencil for marking layout positions
  • Laser Level (recommended for alignment)
  • Drill with bit and Phillips head

All connectors and mounting hardware are included in your Balvolt™ kit. We recommend reviewing the full installation guide before beginning and consulting a professional installer if you have questions about your specific setup.

What surfaces can Balvolt™ lights mount on?

Works best on: Smooth drywall ceilings. Balvolt™ kits include mounting hardware designed for standard drywall surfaces.

Other surfaces: Painted wood, smooth concrete, and metal panels may also be suitable but require customer-supplied anchors, fasteners, or mounting hardware appropriate for the specific surface. Balvolt™ does not include concrete anchors, metal screws, or adhesives. The customer or installer is responsible for selecting and using the correct mounting hardware for their application.

May require additional preparation: Textured or popcorn ceilings, dusty or oily surfaces, and uneven substrates. Outdoor locations are not supported—Balvolt™ kits are designed for indoor use only and are not rated for outdoor environments.

If you're unsure about your mounting surface or the appropriate hardware for your application, consult with a qualified installer before beginning.

Can I install on textured (popcorn) ceilings?

Textured ceilings may require additional preparation for a secure mount. Common approaches include:

  • Screw mounting through the textured surface
  • Installing smooth mounting boards first, then attaching lights
  • Resurfacing the ceiling area before installation

We recommend consulting a professional installer for textured ceiling applications. 

How do tubes connect together?

Balvolt™ tubes use snap-fit connectors that click into ports on each tube—similar to interlocking building blocks. No additional tools are required for tube-to-tube connections. When properly seated, the connectors are designed to provide secure, reliable connections.

What if a mistake is made during installation?

Balvolt™ kits mount using drywall anchors and screws. If a tube needs to be repositioned, the anchor must be removed and reinstalled in the new location, which will leave a hole in the mounting surface.

The customer or installer is responsible for any surface repair resulting from repositioning or removal. If you're unsure about placement, we recommend finalizing your layout plan before beginning installation. Consult your installer for layout planning help.

Do you offer professional installation?

In the Dallas–Fort Worth (DFW) metro area, we can connect you with an independent installation professional familiar with Balvolt™ products. We are actively building a referral directory of independent installers in additional regions.

If you're outside the DFW area, a qualified handyman, contractor, or licensed professional can typically install Balvolt™ kits. An electrician is not typically required since our system is plug-in and generally does not involve hard-wiring when installed as directed. Customers with electrical concerns, complex layouts, or local code requirements should consult a licensed electrician before installation.

Balvolt™ does not employ, certify, or assume liability for any third-party installer. All installation professionals operate independently, and the customer is responsible for selecting, vetting, and hiring a qualified professional for their project.

Shipping & Delivery

How much does shipping cost?

Free standard shipping within continental US. Alaska, Hawaii, and international calculated at checkout.

How long to receive my order?
  • Processing: 1-2 business days
  • Transit: 3-5 business days (continental US)

Do you offer expedited shipping?

Yes. Expedited (2-3 days) and Express (1-2 days) available at checkout. Orders before 12pm CT ship same day.

Do you ship internationally?

Currently US only. Sign up for our newsletter for updates on international shipping.

How do I track my order?

Shipping confirmation email with tracking sent when order ships. Also check order status in your account.

My tracking hasn't updated. What should I do?

Tracking can take 24-48 hours to update. If no update after 48 hours or "label created" for 2+ business days, contact us.

Package lost or damaged?

Contact us immediately. We'll work with the carrier and ship a replacement. Photograph any damage before discarding packaging.

Can I change my shipping address after ordering?

Contact us immediately. If not shipped yet, we can usually update it.

Returns & Warranty

What is your return policy?

Returns (30-day): Eligible for unused items in original packaging with all components included. Purchased from balvolt.com only.

Not eligible for return: Installed or used items, kits with missing or removed components, orders over 30 days old, or items purchased from unauthorized sellers.

Missing something from your kit? Balvolt™ includes extra components in every kit. If you believe your order arrived incomplete, contact our support team within 7 days of delivery and we'll work to resolve it under our warranty policy. Do not discard packaging until you've verified all components are present.

How do I start a return?
  1. Contact support with order number
  2. Receive RMA number
  3. Ship back (prepaid label for defects)
  4. Once approved, refunds are processed immediately and typically appear within 5–10 business days

Don't ship without RMA—unauthorized returns may be refused.

When will I receive my refund?

Refunds are issued within 5–10 business days after we receive your return. Depending on your bank or card provider, it may take an additional 3–5 business days for the refund to appear on your statement.

What does the warranty cover?

3-year limited warranty covering:

  • Manufacturing defects
  • Power supply failure under normal use
  • LED tube malfunction

Technical Support

My lights won't turn on. What should I check?
  1. Check power connection—power supply plugged in, outlet works
  2. Check smart plug—powered on and connected
  3. Check all snap-fit connections—fully seated
  4. Try different outlet
  5. Power cycle—unplug 30 seconds, reconnect

Still not working? Contact support.

Some tubes aren't working. What's wrong?
  1. Reseat connector between working and non-working tube
  2. Swap positions to isolate tube vs. connection issue
  3. Check for visible damage

Confirmed defective tube? Contact us for warranty replacement.

My lights are flickering. How do I fix this?
  1. (Most common) Check all connections—loose connectors cause intermittent contact
  2. Check power supply ventilation
  3. Check home electrical—voltage fluctuations

Persistent flickering across all lights? May indicate power supply issue—contact support.

Lights are dimmer than expected. What's happening?

Check brightness setting, ensure 100% in app or controller. If lights are still dim, this may indicate a power supply issue—contact support.

Colors look wrong. How do I calibrate?

If a single tube has incorrect color, replace with one of the provided spare tubes. If the full system has incorrect color, contact support for a warranty replacement.

One or more lights are white even with color selected. What's happening?

If one or more lights remain white while a color is selected, the affected tubes may be installed in reverse or not fully seated at the connectors. Check the direction arrows on each tube and ensure they align with the installation guide, then verify that all connectors are firmly and completely attached. If the issue continues, please contact support for assistance.

How do I clean my Balvolt™ lights?

Power supply maintenance?

Designed maintenance-free. Keep ventilation clear, check fan and use air duster periodically, keep dry. Unusual noises? Contact support.

Are Balvolt™ lights waterproof?

No. Indoor use only. Don't install outdoors, in humid areas, or anywhere with water exposure. Moisture damage not covered by warranty.
